Fight Off Free Radicals Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 2 handfuls of organic leafy greens like Swiss chard, spinach, or kale
  • 1 avocado (you can also start with just ½ an avocado and add more, to your taste)
  • 1/2 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1-2 dates or 1 tsp honey (to taste, for sweetness)
  • 1 cup cold water (or ice if you prefer)
  • 1 scoop of Daily Detox for an extra health boost and to support your detox pathways

Substitutions and Other Notes:

I recommend using organic leafy greens, especially if you are opting for spinach or kale. Non-organic spinach and kale are both on the Environmental Work Group’s latest  “Dirty Dozen” list of produce with the highest levels of pesticides.

If you prefer, feel free to use fresh berries over frozen! I typically use frozen berries because I always have them in my freezer, plus I like my smoothies to be super cold. But it’s totally up to you! If you are using fresh fruit, I suggest adding a few ice cubes in addition to the water before blending to thicken and to get your smoothie nice and cold.

Directions:

  1. Add liquids first. You’re going to start by adding the water to your high speed blender first. Adding the water first helps to make the other ingredients blend much faster.
  2. Add softer ingredients. Add the greens, avocado, dates (or honey) and Daily Detox. If you are using fresh fruit instead of frozen, add it here.
  3. Frozen ingredients or ice. Add frozen raspberries, blueberries, and ice (if using).
  4. Cover with lid and blend. Turn your blender on – the best part is, if you have a high powdered blender such as a Vitamix, it whips smoothies together in seconds.
  5. Enjoy!
