Winter Spice Mule with Blood Orange

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup blood orange juice (if you prefer a tangier flavor or cannot find blood oranges to juice, you can also use regular orange juice)
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 cinnamon sticks for syrup
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 ounces (6 tablespoons) of your favorite whiskey
  • 1/2 cup ginger beer
  • 1 slice of blood orange, for garnish
  • spring of mint, for garnish

Tips:

Blood oranges are rich in antioxidants and offer a decadent, sweet taste. They are a great source of potassium, folic acid, and thiamine. They are also rich in vitamin C and flavonoids (think flavor plus phytonutrients!), which together increase immunity and overall good health. If you don’t blood oranges handy for juicing (or cannot find blood orange juice at your local store), feel free to use regular orange juice instead.

If you can, I recommend using diet ginger beer over regular, as it can have quite a bit of sugar.

Finally, mule drinks are traditionally served in copper mugs. But if you don’t have those in your cupboard, feel free to use a your favorite tumbler glass!
