5 Ways to Protect Yourself from EMFs While Outdoors

By now, most people are familiar with EMFs – the electromagnetic frequencies that come off our appliances and electronics and stream through our homes and businesses. However, what many people don’t realize is that these frequencies are now stronger than ever and even more present in our environment since the rollout of 5G.

5G promises to make your internet faster with improved connectivity. The problem is that 5G, although stronger, has a shorter bandwidth which means that there have to be more 5G towers to cover all areas where people will want to be connected – which is pretty much everywhere these days.

This means that in your most frequented outdoor environments, you may be getting bombarded with harsh and harmful electromagnetic frequencies.

In this article, we’ll discuss:

  • Why you should care about EMF exposure
  • How the legislation around EMFs is outdated and needs to be reassessed in light of 5G
  • Which outdoor spaces are no longer safe havens
  • What you can do to mitigate EMF exposure no matter where you are

Why Should You Care About EMFs?

In the last several years, as concern around EMF has continued to rise, research is beginning to finally produce evidence that electromagnetic frequencies are not as safe as we were once led to believe.

In the past, authorities would claim that non-ionizing radiation (the type of EMF that comes off your WiFi, cell phone, smart devices, and so on) was safe for human exposure. Meanwhile, ionizing radiation, a stronger form of electromagnetic frequency that’s primarily used in X-rays, CAT scans, and PET scans, should only be used in moderation as this form of EMF comes with indisputable health concerns[1].

The basic takeaway has always been; that low-frequency (non-ionizing) EMFs are safe, and high-frequency (ionizing) EMFs should be used sparingly.

Now with the rollout of 5G, the voices of concerned scientists, physicians, and other health experts are getting louder and stronger. In fact, there are currently more than 3500 physicians and scientists around the world uniting against 5G and other forms of EMFs and gathering information on its detrimental health effects[2].

Although there is still research that needs to be done for us to understand the exact mechanisms by which EMFs can harm health, what we know at this point is that non-ionizing radiation can impact your cells on the DNA level, causing DNA damage and producing abnormalities in gene expression[3].

One area of the body that seems to be most vulnerable to EMF damage is the brain, with studies showing an influence of EMF exposure on neurological and psychiatric conditions[4][5][6].

EMFs In Your Outdoor Spaces

At this point, you may be wondering how our legislation is allowing for the use of EMFs at high frequencies, as we see with 5G. Unfortunately, the majority of the guidelines and standards that are in place around non-ionizing radiation were established back in the 90s with limited research. To say it’s time for an update is an understatement.

In the meantime, however, the best that you can do is to shield yourself from these frequencies as much as possible and be aware of where and when you are exposed. While outdoor spaces like campsites, hiking trails, and beaches used to be low-exposure areas, 5G is now making it possible for people to access the internet almost everywhere.

Does this mean you should make your home a Faraday cage and never leave? Definitely not.

There are many benefits that we get from being outside and enjoying nature. In fact, research shows that getting out and walking barefoot (also known as “earthing”) can help to mitigate some of the impacts of EMFs and promote better sleep, less pain, and promote overall wellbeing[7][8].

Aside from the earthing benefits, studies show that being in a natural environment for just two hours per week enhances feelings of overall health and wellbeing[9].

So is there a way to enjoy the outdoors while mitigating your exposure to EMFs? Yes, but it takes a bit of thoughtfulness. Read on to learn more.

5 Ways To Protect Yourself From EMFs While Enjoying The Outdoors

Hiker walking alone in the mountains

#1. Embrace Long Drives

While it can be very convenient to have a hiking trail in your backyard or neighborhood, if you have the time to really get out in nature, you’ll benefit from being away from modern society. Depending on where you live, this could mean driving an extra hour to really get out there, but the difference it will make in your experience is well worth the time.

5G towers are going up in places where they can service the most people. Therefore, if you can find your way to a hiking spot or any other place in nature that requires a little more effort to get to (i.e., fewer people will be there), the greater the likelihood that there is less EMF exposure.

Even doing this once a week could make a huge difference in your wellbeing. As mentioned, spending time in nature (especially with your shoes off) is an incredibly healing experience.

#2 Get To Know Where 5G Towers Are

There are several websites that will show you where the 5G towers are in your area. Getting to know your neighborhood and surrounding area and where the 5G towers are can help you navigate where you want to spend your outdoor time.

Two sites that I like are Cell Mapper and Ookla 5G Map

Once you know the 5G landscape of your neighborhood, you can then choose walking routes and parks that are further away from towers. Many of the 5G towers are covered to blend into natural settings, so although you may have an eye out for towers, they can be easily missed unless you know where to look. In my old neighborhood, they make the 5G towers look like palm trees!

#3 Take WiFi-Free Trips

If you want to take those long drives a step further, make it an entire trip. Instead of planning vacations in places that are heavily populated with people, plan your getaways for more remote settings. This could be as simple as a weekend camping trip in the woods. If you don’t have service for a few days and can’t be reached – that’s a good thing.

If the idea of going completely off the grid is a bridge too far, then try focusing on places that are simply less populated. Instead of hitting the cities and towns that everyone is going to for a vacation, try checking out quieter areas that are a bit more removed. You’ll find a lot more peace and relaxation when you’re surrounded by nature instead of a bunch of tourists.

Unplugging a bit is not only helpful for mitigating EMFs, but it’s also incredibly rejuvenating for your mind and body.

#4 Find Smaller, Less Populated Beaches and Parks

Sitting by the ocean or taking in the green at a local park are fantastic ways to get a hit of nature, especially if you live close by. However, due to the rise in 5G and the need for people to stay connected, these natural landscapes are becoming contaminated with EMFs.

With that being said, you’ll have better luck finding the peace you’re looking for if you gravitate towards smaller beaches and less popular parks. This may mean you have to drive a bit or scout out parks that you wouldn’t typically go to, but you can bet that those popular beaches and parks you frequent not only have 5G around but everyone else hotspots as well.

#5 Use An EMF Mitigation Device

For those of you that are feeling a bit overwhelmed at this point, I understand completely. Your time outdoors should be a relaxing event, not something you must plan and prepare for to avoid EMFs.

While all of the tips provided here are valuable, you might find that they just simply aren’t doable. Maybe you have a family that wants to vacation in the touristy hot spots, or perhaps you don’t live anywhere close to remote natural settings. Or perhaps, like many people, the area you live in is already inundated with 5G towers.

If any of these situations resonate with you, take heart – there is an answer.

EMF mitigating devices come in all shapes and sizes, but the ideal device is one you can take on the go. When you have a mitigating device with you, you’ll balance your energetic field no matter where you are.

These days, avoiding EMFs altogether just isn’t possible. Even if you have a cabin in the woods to escape to on the weekends, if you want to live in the world and interact with other people, EMF is part of the deal.

My favorite EMF mitigation device is the Harmoni Pendant. This necklace is small enough to be worn daily but powerful enough to provide peace of mind when you’re out and about in the world. And, of course, unless you’ve gone to great lengths to protect your home from EMF, the Harmoni Pendant will also help you mitigate EMF in your home.

And unlike most EMF mitigation devices, stickers or devices that protect your cell phone, it mitigates EMF in your body and goes everywhere you go, 24/7.

Takeaway

As we continue to see more and more 5G towers pop up all over the place, there’s an increasing need to protect and mitigate ourselves against the EMFs emitted from these towers.

Natural settings like parks, hiking trails, and beaches do expose us to EMFs and 5G.

If you have the time to go for a long drive to find an EMF-free hike or a remote beach that’s fantastic, you’ll benefit from both the natural environment and the EMF-free zone. However, if finding these remote spots feels like too much work or is out of your reach, wearing an EMF-mitigating device like the Harmoni Pendant can offer peace of mind.

Personally, with the explosion of 5G, I now wear my Harmoni Pendant wherever I go. And when I get out in nature, I know I can get the best of the natural world without being inundated with EMF.
